Gratitude

I find myself wishing that there was more time at the end of each day. Time flies when you live a life as a young professional, inspired by the hustle to become something one day. I find myself pushing so hard to become the best version of myself, I neglect to remember to take a step back and appreciate the people and opportunity that have been put before me.

Mary Allison Mitchell: Commitment is a funny thing. Some people are afraid of it. Some people desire it. And many struggle to find a companion who they meet eye-to-eye with on the subject of “defining the relationship”. I was someone who was afraid of commitment, and never wanted to settle in fear of not finding “the one”. But Allison has redefined my feelings on commitment, proving that a team of 2 can take you much farther emotionally, spiritually, and physically. I’m grateful for Allison being my accountability partner, waking up (most) every morning to workout together, make my breakfast and coffee while I quickly shower, ride her bike literally hundreds of miles behind me while I prepare for the most physically demanding things I’ve done in my life, and encourages me to take risks as a professional, as an entrepreneur, and as an athlete. Each day she inspires me become a better man than I was yesterday. I believe I share this gratitude with others by proclaiming her to our friends and family, and on social channels. She truly inspires me, and for that I am forever grateful.

Opportunity: At the age of 24 years old, I am grateful for — and humbled by — the opportunities that I have created in my life. I have lived what seems to already be a lifetime of experiences: from racing cars at the professional level, starting my own businesses affording me to pay my own way through college, starting a career as an engineer and becoming a leader, and now starting my 3rd business with a dear friend of mine. The fact that I have options, and my success or failure is completely in my own hands should be a reminder that — while I have worked very hard — I am lucky to have a life that can afford me to live very comfortably. To that end, I do not believe I share my gratitude enough for these opportunities. I sometimes feel like someone could misinterpret my gratitude for bragging. Instead, I need to embrace it, and do my part to inspire our generation that — regardless of how more or less fortunate one may be — have opportunity and options at their fingertips.
