We Are A Creature Meant To Traverse The World

As-Salamu Alaikum

Whether or not we can travel, or simply leave or starting point of where we came into the world, is not always a given. But it is a human desire to move forward from where they are. Seeing other places gives people great pleasure, and expanding ones horizons actually builds the brain to fit it. It changes the brain, when see and learn new things, and our miraculous minds catalogue it in whatever place in that ball of tissue in our skulls. We can never even fully understand the smallest parts of our bodies, glory Be to Allah.

When I was in Chicago a week ago, I was in an Araby store buying things that are not sold in standard stores like falafel, safeeha (a kind of bread pastry) with spinach, and other ones with zaatar and then cheese, and the list goes on. The cashier wanted to know if we were having a party and I said no, it’s just mean and my Grandma inshallah. After he told me we are going to get very fat I just told him we don’t mind mind getting fat. It was a nice jocular conversation.

After I left, I looked around saw that the entire strip mall was Arab. Many Arabs who came could barely speak English. But it wasn’t important, because everything they needed was from this little piece of Palestine where Arabic was the preferred language. It became clear to me that not only to people like to travel and move their lives, but they take their lives with them from place to place. They must miss the original places of residence, but sometimes in order to grow to the best of our abilities, we cannot flourish unless we move. We are a remarkably resilient creature. We are literally of the Earth’s dirt, so everywhere can be home. And when we believe in Allah, glory be to Him, the Earth is our Mosque and no man made walls and laws have a right to stop us from traversing the Earth. May Allah Bless us in our travels, our communities, and most of all our belief. Ameen.
