Why Creating a Youtube Channel Was the Best Decision I Have Ever Made

And I have less than 100 subscribers

In just over a month, I will have closed my first year on YouTube. When I started this venture, on a limb, I never expected to learn as much as I did. From planning, editing, and posting videos, I have learned more about myself and the world around me, than I could ever anticipate. The best thing about it? My capabilities and experience are no more advanced than yourself!

Although not always profitable, creating on YouTube is a business. With a larger fan base, however, monetizing your channel can lead to great sums of money. For me, I am not “in it” for the money, and hope to never be. With that said, I did experience several other elements of a business. I grasped the amount of work, required to produce a product. I first discovered what steps were involved, leading to the product. To do so, I was also tasked with mastering many new skills. Also seen in a business, I developed ways to streamline these processes, leading to more uploaded videos. In order to do so, required plentiful research and time. As a student and part-time employee, this coincided with strengthening my time-management skills. At the end of the day, I have gained practical experience and skills that will serve to my advantage when entering the workforce.

I have never considered myself a quiet person. Reserved at times, absolutely. When filming my first few videos, it was blatant the discomfort I was experiencing. At many points, I would simply blank, forgetting any and all words of the English language. Over time, this has become a very isolated occurrence. There have been many instances, outside of my YouTube world, where I have felt more content within my own skin, as well. Whether this is presenting in class, introducing myself, or simply speaking in front of others.

Additionally, I have grown to learn numbers do not define you. As dramatic as that may sound, social media does a horrific job of painting this reality. At the beginning of my YouTube journey, I saw great success. Depicted in the image below, I was…
