10 Ways to Overcome Global Warming

At least eight low-lying islands in the Pacific Ocean have disappeared below sea level, while some of them, such as the Maldives, Fiji and Kiribati, are still at high risk of sinking today. In fact, almost half of the Dutch mainland has been “swallowed” below sea level. As polar ice caps melt and sea levels rise, parts of sub-Saharan Africa are experiencing prolonged drought.

The increase in the Earth’s temperature has also resulted in tropical storms and extreme heatwaves (heatwaves) which have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of people in various parts of the world. Not only that, it is estimated that around 1 million animal species on earth are threatened with extinction due to climate change.
If extinction occurs, it will have an impact on changes in ecosystems in world life. This is caused by the drought of water sources, which also has an impact on dead plants resulting in decreased agricultural production due to erratic seasonal changes and cannot be predicted exactly when they will arrive.

Global warming can also cause the risk of allergies, asthma, and outbreaks of infectious diseases due to air pollution, increased rainfall, and the spread of disease germs carried by insects or mosquitoes, such as dengue fever (DHF). No less than 30 types of new diseases emerged from 1976–2008 which was a nightmare for the world of health.

Know the causes of global warming, including due to deforestation for commercial purposes, namely opening agricultural land and livestock, or to open roads for residential and industrial areas.

Land clearing is not only done through logging. Not infrequently, unscrupulous industrial elements deliberately burn forests in order to clear land more quickly. Burning forests will certainly increase the average temperature in the area as well as releasing a larger portion of carbon dioxide and other pollutants.

Another cause is vehicle fuel gas emissions, because more than 90 percent of public transportation (both land, air and water transportation) is powered by petroleum fuels, such as gasoline or diesel. The gas released from this combustion process releases carbon dioxide and other pollutants, such as methane and nitrous oxide.

In addition, industrial and household waste is the third largest cause of global warming after motor vehicle gas emissions. The industry is even suspected of being the earliest cause of global warming that we are currently experiencing. Agricultural industrial waste was recorded as contributing 9% of the total volume of greenhouse gas emissions produced in 2017. For further explanation about pollutants, you can read Grameds in the book Pollutants Cause Global Warming and Risk Analysis.
Even though various efforts to reduce the rate of global warming are being intensively carried out by governments in various countries and the United Nations, you personally can play a role too Edufriend! In fact, if millions of people do this, the positive impact will be enormous for the health of our planet. Then, what are the little things you can do? Here are some of them!

1. Use Public Transportation & Bikes
The very first way to Overcome Global Warming is to Limit the use of cars and motorbikes only for long distances, for short distances you can start the habit of walking or using a bicycle. This would limit the increase in carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide in the atmosphere.

Meanwhile, to go to longer distances, if possible, use mass public transportation, such as the busway and train. Taking a private vehicle together alternately with friends or relatives who happen to be in the same direction or agree can be an option for ed-frieds.
2. Minimize the Use of Equipment Containing CFCs
An easy way to Overcome Global Warming is CFC (Cloro Four Carbon) which are compounds containing carbon atoms with chlorine and fluorine bonded to them. CFCs are generally produced by air conditioning equipment, please note that currently CFCs contribute 20% to the process of the greenhouse effect.

Therefore, in dealing with hot room temperatures, we can design a building that has lots of air ventilation so there is no need to use air conditioning or air conditioning. However, if the use of air conditioning is necessary, make sure we use non-CFC air conditioners that are environmentally friendly.
Likewise with refrigerators, we should use non-CFC refrigerators to avoid the greenhouse effect and so that global warming does not get worse and harm humans.

3. Turn Off Electronic Devices When Not In Use
The third way to deal with global warming is to turn off lights, fans, air conditioners, computers, TVs, and all electronic devices when not in use.

Using LED lights is a smart way to increase energy efficiency. Moreover, the price of LED lights is now affordable, choose one that has a light sensor so it can turn off.

4. Reuse
The fifth way to deal with global warming is to use ceramic or glass coffee cups, not disposable cups like those made of plastic and Styrofoam. Reuse plastic bags and other storage containers. Besides that:

Use old letter paper and envelopes, old calendars, for doodles or notes for daily use. Reuse HVS paper that has just been used 1 face to 2 faces or back and forth.
Use cloth napkins, reusable handkerchiefs instead of tissue paper and other disposable cleaning paper.
Use ‘reusable’ plates, drinking bottles and cutlery that are not disposable. Use reusable containers to store food instead of aluminum foil and other plastic materials. Reuse packaging from cardboard materials for shipping goods.
Reuse old newspapers to wrap and ‘pack’ items. Go to the store with a canvas bag instead of using paper bags and plastic bags. Save the wire hangers and return or reuse them to the dry cleaners.
Paint with a reusable brush and roller instead of using spray paint which emits harmful emissions.
6. Reduce
The sixth way to overcome global warming is to save on the use of paper and tissue because they are made of wood which must be cut down from trees in the forest, while forests are needed to neutralize CO2 emissions in the air.

The 3R activity stages which consist of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle can help prevent global warming. And Grameds can learn all of that in the book Oh, Turns Out… We Can Do 3R Activities to Reduce Waste!

Maintaining, caring for and repairing the things we have and have used rather than buying new ones frequently.
Buy and use ‘rechargeable’ batteries for devices you use frequently.
Prioritize buying products labeled environmentally friendly.
Buy and eat organic vegetables, definitely healthier and environmentally friendly.
Buy locally made products to reduce emissions from transportation
Buy products that can be recycled or made from recycled materials.
Avoid buying food products packaged in plastic or styrofoam containers because they cannot be recycled. Also avoid or reduce the use of eating/drinking utensils such as plastic spoons/forks and drinking straws.
Avoid ‘fast food’ because this type of food is the largest producer of waste in the world, besides that it is also not good for health.
Reduce the use of chemicals when cleaning all corners of the house. Don’t buy products made from endangered animals.
7. Recycle
The seventh way to deal with global warming is to use clothes made from environmentally friendly materials. Use recycled bags to save the environment, Then:

Recycle everything: newspapers, bottles and cans, plastic, leather, glass and aluminum and other inorganic materials.
For those of you who like to be creative, take advantage of non-organic waste to be recycled into beautiful handicraft products.
Collect waste and dispose of it in the appropriate place, if possible separate the organic and non-organic. Organic waste can be used for compost, while non-organic waste can be reprocessed into goods that provide benefits, instead of being thrown carelessly, for example into rivers, lakes and seas, especially those made of plastic will really damage the environment, because plastic materials are originally made from petroleum. This, can only decompose at least after reaching 200 years
Used plastic items such as: buckets, wall paint packages, used drink bottles and others can be reused or created into beautiful plant pots. If you don’t want to use it again, immediately donate or give it to another person or organization that is willing to collect and process this inorganic waste.
Likewise, used clothes and household appliances that are no longer used or recycled should be donated to those who want to receive and use them again.
Don’t get into the habit of wasting even a little food because leftovers can emit methane gas in an open place such as a landfill. Compost leftover vegetables, fruit peels and so on from your kitchen.
Start processing organic waste into compost that can be used as plant fertilizer. Compost dry leaves and trash, or take it to a waste recycler.
8. Become a Vegetarian
The eighth way to overcome global warming is to become a vegetarian. According to a recent study, the best and easiest thing that can be done to improve the condition of the planet is to eliminate meat and dairy products from the diet.

Given that the global population is expected to reach a scale of 10 billion by 2060, the researchers also analyzed the environmental impact caused by human production and consumption of food. The idea behind this research is to help inform food producers and consumers about better ways to reduce their impact on the planet.

Published in the journal Science, research by Britain’s Oxford University and Swiss agricultural research institute Agroscope found that meat and dairy products contribute as much as 18 percent of all calories and 37 percent of all protein.

Its production uses 83 percent of agricultural land and generates 60 percent of the agricultural industry’s greenhouse gas emissions. “Meat production involves feed production and often results in deforestation, especially tropical rainforests. Therefore apply a vegan lifestyle to save our earth.

A vegan diet includes consuming whole grains, nuts, legumes, vegetables and fruits. A vegan also does not consume animal products or animal-derived products such as eggs, meat and dairy products.

People who adopt a vegan diet also usually like to chew something because they tend to be hungry more often than people who don’t abstain from meat. Provide plenty of small meals and healthy snacks so you don’t end up starving. Here are healthy vegan snacks that you can eat as much as you want without worrying:

All kinds of hard fruit. Bake it in the oven of your favorite fruit with olive oil and spices.
If you have a sweet tooth, use maple syrup and cinnamon.
Cracker made from whole grains and topped with hummus.
Rice and bean cakes with salsa sauce.
Baked sweet potato topped with coconut oil and sea salt.
Dark chocolate and peanut butter.
Banana ice cream (blender banana and put it in mixer).

8. Planting Trees (Reforestation)

The tenth way to overcome global warming is by planting trees. Let’s start planting trees in the yard (Go Green). Planting trees can also reduce the risk of flooding, which is one of the impacts of Global Warming discussed in the Global Warming book; Floods & Logging Tragedy.

The trees that we plant in our yard, no matter how small the yard, will definitely play a role in neutralizing CO2 in the air as well as refreshing and healthy for us. So don’t hesitate to start planting trees and continue to add to your collection of plants in your yard.

Want ornamental plants, flowers, fruits or live pharmacies, vegetables and herbs are not a problem. And if most of the earth’s citizens do it, it will provide very significant benefits for reducing CO2 in the air and in the end global warming can be reduced.

Use organic fertilizers to fertilize plants, or compost that we can make ourselves, which is more economical and environmentally friendly.

10. Campaign to Protect Nature and the Environment
Spread knowledge about climate change and educate others. Teach as many people as possible to respect and take care of nature and the environment. Take time to provide information or get involved in social activities to help love the Earth. For this reason, Grameds needs to have knowledge about various threats to global warming. You can make the book Magic Thousand Character Series: Global Warming Threat, which is packed with various interesting illustrations, as a reference.
