Staying fit in University!

We all would like to live a healthy lifestyle during university but, truth be told, it is a lot easier said than done. But what if it wasn’t? What most people find hard about living a healthy lifestyle during university is some people do not enough time to work out because of classes. Another is becoming lazy because one may not see results so quickly and most of all it is expensive in some cases. But here are three strategies we can still live a healthy lifestyle while in university.

First is how we can find time to work out in between our busy class schedules. One way is some universities have free gyms that are open to their students after the athletes are done with their training. What one can do is let’s say, that you have a one hour gap between classes and the gym is near your next class. Instead of going to your dorm and waiting an hour, go to the gym for at least thirty to forty-five minutes and right after, change in the bathroom before your class that way you can get a quick gym session and also be on time for class. Another way is some universities have two campuses, for example, my university has an east campus and a west campus, and on top of that my school has a bus that we can take to go to the other campus. Instead of taking the bus, I walk and sometimes jog between the two campuses to get to my class. That is good because I get cardio and in the event, I can’t go to the gym that day, that commute will be my workout.

One of the biggest reasons that people lack motivation is because they do not see results when they want and that’s mainly because of diet. This reason will also tie into the same idea that living a healthy lifestyle is expensive. From my knowledge universities have meal plans they give their students a stipend for on-campus food or they have a cafeteria where their students can go and eat. This leads me to my second strategy, instead of eating all the sweets and unhealthy things at the university and getting what is called the freshman fifteen, which is when incoming freshman gain fifteen pounds or more because of how they can eat whatever they want whenever they want. What one should do is go for the healthy choices because you don’t have to worry about using your own money to pay for it due to the fact that you already have the school’s meal plan to pay for all the expensive healthy foods. For example, at my school’s convenience store they have all the healthy foods that would cost a lot at a normal grocery market.

The last strategy is the important one we and it finds a friend to do it with because if we surround ourselves with people that are trying to do the same thing we are, people connect and will support each other while they are taking on this challenge. For example, when one might feel like giving up their friend will motivate them to keep on going. Then when you start to see results you feel more joyful because not only did you start to get closer to your goal but you got closer to it because you and your friend did it together. From my own personal experience with the help of friends within a span of 4 months I was able to lose over thirty pounds. What I also did to lose weight was there is an Instagram page that I follow that does workouts based off superhero workouts.

Living a healthy lifestyle is easier said than done, but if we take time each day to maybe work out forty-five minutes here and there, or watch what we eat, or even find a friend to join us on that journey then living a healthy lifestyle is not as difficult as some might think. Each day we have to motivate ourselves and push ourselves to live said a healthy lifestyle and be a role model to those who want to lose weight and live healthily. For what motivates me still is my current college roommate who was considered overweight for his age and height, and made a change and lost his unhealthy weight over the summer and changed his eating habits and now he says that he’s more energized and is able to do more. So I encourage you and also challenge you to go out there and make that change, you can do it!
