Trustworthy News in the Latino Community?

For the community field assignment i decided to observe the latino community in South El Monte where i am originally from. There are many local supermarkets around my moms house, however i decided to go to “La Superior Supermarket”. Before I went to the market i wanted to observe I went to a completely different supermarket in a different city. I decided to stop by a grocery store in Pasadena and saw how different that supermarket was set up compared to the supermarket in El Monte. When i entered La Supieror everything in the front was sweets, chips, soda, and beer. I found it strange how the packs of beers were in the same area as the vegetables and fruits. Usually in other markets i see alcohol in there own small area. As i was looking around i realized how much junk food they had in the front instead of healthy foods. When i walked into the beverage aisle all i saw was soda, “kool-aid”, cartons of sweet juice, and energy drinks like Monster, Red Bull, etc. There was no sight of water unless you looked all the way of the back. In the back there was also little packages of herbal teas, but those were really hidden behind other juices. Another thing i found odd. Besides observing the store and what it had, i tried to reached out to a couple customers on how they receive information within their community. Out of the six individuals i tried to interview only two were willing to talk to me for less than a minute. Both individuals said they know some things happening around by watching Univision. However, one lady mentioned that she doesn’t really care for the news because she believes most of the information is false and they only want to show you what they want you to see. Besides Univision they don’t get their information from anywhere else. They don’t trust many outlets. I asked them if they bother to read any news articles online and they both said no because they wouldn’t know what is a reliable source. After i spoke to these two individuals i realized how unfortunate it is to not know about the sources around you. Not being taught what is right and what is false. It makes me feel fortunate to go to school and use all the sources i have learned throughout my years of school.
