The States Gamble with my Mental Health

Don’t worry, it’s all in the name of Public Health Safety.

The most recent lockdown has f*cked me. And I’m so happy I have this platform to write which allows me to swear because right now that’s all I want to do.

I’m angry, I’m bitter. I’m extremely stressed out.

If I’m going to be really honest with you, and I don’t know who will be reading this so it’s getting a little vulnerable here, I’m broken.

This lockdown has broken my spirit. And although we are entering out of it, hope is a word reserved for the first five lockdowns we endured.

I’m a Single Mom of a toddler. I have Anxiety, and recovered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, so I understand what it is like to suffer with Mental Health issues. I was already feeling isolated and alone which is not an uncommon experience when you become a new Mother.

Over the past year and a half, all my saving graces in the form of activities, childcare, and good old fashioned socialisation, have been taken away from me.

All for my own well-being and that of my Child, of course.

I’m sick of talking about it, thinking about it, and most of all living it — the Coronavirus that is, and the world’s longest Coronavirus Lockdown in Melbourne, Australia (235 cumulative days and counting).

So instead I’m going to propose the important questions I feel like have been greatly missed from the agenda:

is a healthy population being told to reduce activity and be subjected to a a culture of fear, stressful living conditions and economic hardship for a prolonged period of time?
