Worldwide adds to diversity of its Monterey auction docket

With vehicles as diverse as a 1937 Delahaye 135M coupe bodied by Dubos and a 1968 L-88 Chevrolet Corvette Sunray-DX built to race by Don Yenko, Worldwide Auctioneers is filling out the docket for its inaugural Pacific Grove Auction, its first venture as part of Monterey Car Week.

The auction, which Worldwide says will include around 70 collector vehicles, is scheduled for August 17 on the Pacific Grove Golf Links, located at the northern tip of the Monterey Peninsula.

Also revealed for the auction docket are a 1934 Mercedes-Benz 380K cabriolet, a 1938 BMW 328 MM roadster, a 1948 Simca-Gordini Grand Prix monoposto, a 1958 Porsche 356A Speedster, a 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona coupe and a 2013 Lamborghini 570–4 Super Trofeo racer.

Earlier, when announcing the scheduling of the auction, Worldwide said the docket also would include a 1937 Lagonda LG4S drophead coupe, a SS 100 1 1/2-liter open tourer, and the serial №1 1957 Dual Ghia convertible

Joining those cars are the latest group, which includes the Delahaye with its “rollback” roof and other coachwork by Louis Dubos in France.

“We love the history of the car and it is such a gorgeous example from every angle,” Rod Egan, Worldwide co-owner and auctioneer, said in a news release. “Some of the greatest automotive designs in history came about during the ’30s and this Delahaye is a testament to the great coach builders of the period.”

Meanwhile, and perhaps at the other end of the spectrum, there’s the 1968 Yenko-prepared Corvette racer that ran the 24-hour race at Daytona in 1968 and set a GT-class lap record in the 12-hour at Sebring that year.

“Here is a thrilling piece of living American motorsports history that we’re delighted to offer for sale, expertly restored by Kevin McKay to 1968 Sebring Livery and complete with NCRS Heritage and Bloomington Gold Special Collection awards,” said John Kruse, Worldwide’s other owner/auctioneer.
