We made it!

We made it this far. Not unscathed, but alive, to 2021.

We are an injured nation. So much damage. But before we get to work, saving America, we have some celebrating to do. We narrowly averted a full-on dictatorship. Let’s all of us please stop and breathe for a few seconds. We literally drunk-drove ourselves to the cliff edge, looked down and turned away to safety, after putting our front tire on the very edge of a death fall.

Only Joe Biden and Kamala Harris could have won it. They did it by winning swing voters in battleground states. Some were Obama ‘08 and ‘12, then Trump ‘16 voters. Had Bernie run instead, he would have won over a few more white Trumpers but fewer black voters, and no wealthy voters — zero. Nobody but Biden/Harris would have rebuilt the blue wall.

Here we are. We watch the GOP and the conservative media universe rocking in stunned silence, Rupert Murdoch’s empire clearly distancing itself from Trumpism and moving to a more traditional working class right wing position, ready for a post-Trump landscape. Nice gift, leaving a third of their audience for Newsmax and AON, but a smart strategy in readiness for when the world moves on, leaving Trumpism to shrink into the underground, white power groups, low rent agitators and downmarket digital media outlets. The GOP will rise from the ashes as something different, something new.

The Democrats are not in great shape. Half the blue tent dislikes Biden. The urbanites from big blue pockets feel robbed, cheated by the centrist agenda that stomped on their dreams of a large scale woke wave that was going to smack the ‘money’ world in the face and install fairness by law, siding with the underdog and the oppressed, against the owner class. So that didn’t go well.

Many Democrats are stunned by the defection by so many Latinos who showed no gratitude for our sympathetic anti-wall marches and our support for asylum seekers and border crossers. They voted for Trump because they own micro businesses, work hard and think of themselves as entrepreneurs. We’re stunned and we don’t know what to do with this data. Similarly, the black vote coming out for Trump in much higher numbers than we smugly predicted. Wasn’t in the script, but the lessons contained have not been learned, it would seem.
