Ice In Her Eyes

It was a false, cruel spring

She stood on her toes, tilted her head to face the world, and let the sun shine on. She could feel her frozen heart-melting as the rays kissed her cheeks and white light leaped at her eyelids. The swirling heat enveloped her as a ghost of a smile flirted with her lips. She let herself linger in the warm blaze, the sun gently beating down on the back of her neck.

And then, unfortunately much too soon, the sun receded upon the arrival of a dark storm cloud — the clear skies turning gray and murky. Rays were replaced by raindrops, and the warm blaze turned to cold water.

She opened her eyes, the rain splashing violently against her delicate face. She slowly brought one hand to her cheeks, only to find that the rain had mixed with her tears. The other hand she put over her pounding heart, as the sharp sound of hardening ice suddenly echoed in her ears.

She wrenched her arm back, alarmed; regrettably, the poor girl was not quick enough. She stared numbly at her frigid fingers, as swirls of black and purple danced along with her frosty nails.

And there the poor girl stood. In the freezing rain, cold and numb, lips shivering, unable to stop the ice from her heart as it slowly climbed to her eyes.
