Buildings Are Not Just About Aesthetics

What are the factors that make buildings good? It’s not just about the aesthetics for sure. Or the strength of the structure and all that kind of stuff. We must go back to the all three factors that…

WISELY party calls for a clean and honest student election as glitches in the NUSG automated elections occurred

The Willing to Serve and Lead You (WISELY) Party fears that the glitches that occured during the first day of the election for the National University Student Government will result to a non-credible turn out if not ultimately rigged.

According to on-ground reports from various students and as attested by the candidates of WISELY Party themselves, aside from the tedious voting process which is different from the previous elections, there has been some unnecessary events that occured while voting. Some of these were:
• Accounts of students for the election have been cast even before they were able to enter the names of the candidates they would like to vote for;
• At around 3 o’ clock in the afternoon, there was a sudden changing of link for the voting purposes. It was changed without informing the interested parties;
• At around 10 o’ clock in the morning and 3 o’ clock in the afternoon, there was an interruption of the internet connection at the polling place;
• In the graphic user interface of the automated elections, as observed, all college representatives appear whereas only the college representative of the respective colleges of the voters should appear;
• The google personal account of students were not personally and properly logged out after the casting of their votes;
• There was no confirmation letter sent to the google mail accounts of the students who cast their votes.

Furthermore, an alarming number of students were pressured by several Board of Election Inspectors to automatically click the ‘I Agree’ button without giving the students an ample time to review the contents of the agreement.

The Commission on Student Elections also admitted in a dialogue at around 7:00 PM that there were discrepancies on the turn out of votes for the first day of NUSG election. According to the CSE, there was an alarming difference between the number of voters turn out and the number of voters who actually voted. Only 792 votes were counted by the system while there were 815 voters who actually voted.

Apart from this, the CSE has also imposed a new requirement to vote which is the need to have a google account. Such imposition of the requirement violates the NUSG Election Code which states that “For automated election, students are required to bring their Identification Card in order to vote” (Section 02, Article VIII, 2017 Election Code)

On this note, the WISELY Party earlier filed its first wave of complaints to the CSE and appealed to the commission to conduct a comprehensive investigation on the glitches that were observed today.

Moreover, the WISELY Party would like to challenge the Commission on Student Election to uphold the rights of all the Nationalians to a clean and honest election, free from the hands of anyone other than the students themselves.

Ultimately, we call upon our fellow students to be very wary and vigilant. We must all expose and oppose the defective character of the student election. The WISELY Party maintains that a clean governance starts from a transparent and unspoiled election.

Stand for Democracy!
Stand for a clean and honest election!
