As part of our MBA program we were asked to create new roles that could breath life into traditional organizations. Here we tackled harnessing innovation and a new HR role.

Innovate or Die.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we were in a different business this time next year?

Innovation is already happening in every business- it’s certainly happening in ours. It’s taking place in quiet pockets of time & space but generally not seen or even worse being ignored. This new role is designed to seek out these innovation pockets, support them, and when needed be the sponsor and investor. We don’t want to wrap process around something that’s already happening, rather we want to nurture and hopefully grow more things.

A senior level executive role with a budget set at the beginning of each year — your success will be measured by the success and failure of the projects we invest in as a company. Every project will be defined once funding is requested and the success metrics customized to fit the goals of the project.

What’s wrong with HR?

We want to hire the best people. And we want them to be the happiest people. So why do we demand with all today’s possible solutions for remote working that everyone must sit in the same building all day.

Your job is to change this.

Your job is to find the best talent irrespective of location, and let them work from Bali, Ireland or wherever they choose to be.

But your job is just beginning once they join up. You will have to work with team leads internally to setup new ways of work together. We will need to utilize new technology and internal processes to ensure our remote workers feel as much a part of the team as our local workers do.

We will look to you to design a plan to ensure our remote workers have enough in person time with our local workers — we think at least once a year but you will be designing this as part of your role.
